We love the French country, shabby chic, cottage style of decorating because it makes a home feel cozy and warm. We love vintage jewelry, linens, books, furniture-everything that makes your home yours. You want your home to be your haven, a warm, cozy cocoon that shelters you from our overly busy world, filled with personal, time worn objects, chosen by you to reflect your own personal style.
Not all of us have things that have been handed down to us, but the story of where you found the comfy chair the cat has claimed or the teapot with pretty violets on it makes it an instant heirloom. You can imagine how many meals were eaten at a table spread lovingly with a beautiful tablecloth you purchased here; that gorgeous rhinestone bracelet you had to have; the precious vanity table that fits perfectly in your guest room. We love the things you love and we thoroughly enjoy treasure hunting for them.
A love of antiques and collecting things is pretty much how Shop Around the Corner got its start. We started in a teensy little building on the north end of town in 2007. To say it was rustic is an understatement. But we got our feet wet and found out where we really wanted to go with this idea and how to get there. In March of 2008, a wonderful new space opened up for us in the oldest commercial building still in use in Western North Carolina.
When we moved to 55 N. Main St. we originally were going to incorporate our antiques business with a small tea room. The tea room did not happen based on the cost to meet county regulations. But our love of food, entertaining, gardening, home décor and especially people has helped us to take our business to where we are now.
Our shop also features French soaps and lotions, candles and gourmet foods and beverages.
We have added over the years more and more work by local artists and crafters. WNC is well-known for a wealth of hand made items. We feature one artist each month so they can show off things we don’t usually carry in the shop due to limited space.
